Data Entry Speed Test (DEST)

The SSC Typing Test, officially called DEST (Data Entry Speed Test), is a mandatory skill test for government posts like Tax Assistant, Auditor, UDC, LDC, JSA, and DEO. Candidates must type an English passage within a fixed time limit. The test measures key depressions (total keystrokes), not WPM directly.

SSC CGL Requirement
Minimum 2000 key depressions in 15 minutes (approx. 35 WPM) for Tax Assistant, ASO, UDC posts.
SSC CHSL Requirement
LDC: 1750 keys / 15 min (35 WPM). DEO: 2000 keys / 15 min. JSA posts included.
RRB NTPC Requirement
30 WPM English or 25 WPM Hindi in 10 minutes for Junior Clerk and Account Clerk posts.
Qualifying Test Only
DEST is not counted for merit. It is pass/fail only. You must clear it for final appointment to the post.
